Rundown of AI applications since late 2011

Updated: Nov 8, 2024

Smart Assistance has been here for a while. Since the introduction of Siri in 2011 and Alexa later on, we have been all a part of their world. The term Artificial Intelligence was invented by John McCarthy in 1950, named as the father of AI. They were inspired by Alan Turing exponential growth in breaking messages during World War Two. The methods used are still integral part of the bases of how AI and machine learning are developed to operate. Everything that has made smartphones more efficient is by the use of AI algorithms - GPS use, appointments, payments and the use of search engines long before Siri was there. We get list of recommendations whenever we search for something on the internet and through chatbots are directed whenever we need support. This learned behaviour is aimed to make our life simpler, leaving room for improvement, whereas in the future we will be so connected that we will not need to do groceries, basic household activities and AI will need to provide safety to our children by having someone or a automated EVs bring them to school and get them back.

Today most of us use advanced chatbots like GoogleAI, OpenAI and the now developed and upgraded Grok by X. This automated intelligence already extends further than that - Self-Driving cars, softwares and systems that improve the infrastructure of the cities, robotics, language models for more efficient within a company infrastructure, biological research and healthcare.

Robotics and AI, Six

AI is playing a crucial role in healthcare- one of the fields where we are looking for even greater breakthroughs, aiming to improve the quality of life and prolong our lifespans. To reach this level a lot has to be done in protecting peoples data and ensuring that AI integration in medicine and biomedicine will be saving humanity instead of being in control of harmful outcomes. Regulations of data within medical industry and quality of medical education for physicians and candidates will be crucial to what it is aimed to achieve. You can find and read my blog on what are current epic advancements in healthcare. (link soon)

Vast progress has been there in smart homes, learning to turn our lights in the needed hue. Some of my friends already live in highly self regulating homes and I can hardly wait for my smart bathroom to assist me with product choices every morning upon wake up.

AI softwares can be better integrated in regulating cities. Countries in Asia are making progress from creating smart cities to the boosting the agriculture sphere. Hugely respecting the Gates Foundation efforts worlwide, just few months ago Bill Gates returned from his latest trip to India after which he indicated on the progress the country is making in AI integration in farming. Millions are now able to use predictive mechanisms and models that help with planning and what is the best land to plant their seeds over time. This good example shows why countries like India. where peoples lives are hanging on this industry, are making leaps in development.

Learn more about examples of AI and their application bellow:

  • Machine learning - using algorithms and statistical models to learn and adapt

  • Narrow AI  (example is face recognition and assistance provided by Apple, Android and Google Assistance)

  • Deepmind - companies tap into the world of AI by developing leisure and recreation tools setting some questions about the future of AI

  • Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) - a blur between science fiction and real life, where machines are able to learn any tasks undertaken by human beings. Robots such as the ones in The Matrix or or Westworld

  • Strong AI - interchange to AGI often though to develop once machines develop consciousness

  • Narural Language Processing(NLP) - increasingly used in healthcare, where machines are toughed by huge amount of data how to operate instead of humans

Smart algorithms will change our lives in the way we take decisions, assist in planning, investments and help us receive information. Other sectors are virtual reality, our shopping experiences, video and campaigns generation, production and design of products.
